In anticipation of the explosion, his heart rate began to fluctuate wildly. He rushed outside headlong to avoid the imminent destruction of the laboratory. He raced past the lever he had used to force open the door, and tried to merge inconspicuously with the pedestrians on the sidewalk. He had just made it under the scaffolding of the building site next door when he heard a thud, and was thrown to the ground by the velocity of the resulting blast.
