Capitol One charged off an account of mine 10 years ago. Last year, they placed a judgement on my credit.?

After being on my credit for 8 years, they have now placed a judgement which will be on for another 7 now. Do I have any rights at all or do I have to be punished for another 7 years for a situation that was out of my control? I have no other debt except for my student loan which is current so I would really like to get this resolved because I have worked hard to not incure anymore debt.
