Why do my headphones keep breaking?

im sick of headphones on my mp3.theyll stop working all together or theyll work sometimes and not other times or ill have to mess with them to get them to work. im on my 3rd pair already and they broke. now i have to get a 4th pair. i take care of them so idk whats up. and theyre not generic brands either
