Why do the Giants continue to play Edgar Renteria?

He has limited range at shortstop now and has trouble making plays. He is horrible at the plate. Even when he struggles his at-bats are awful., He swings at garbage and has no pop in his bat. Giants should just release the guy and pay him the money. He is useless.
